Ciao! Are you all ready for Thanksgiving next week?
Today is Glenda Bailey’s birthday. Glenda is the visionary editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar and my former boss/fashion fairy godmother. She has always been very generous with gifts — and totally impossible to shop for (She once bought Audrey Hepburn’s Kelly bag at an auction and Audrey’s gloves were still in it — talk about the woman who has everything!). But I do think she’ll love these insanely beautiful Verdura gold bee clip-on earrings I’m mentally sending to her.
I have always thought Bruno Mars was the whole package and this totally confirms it. To wrap up his 24K Magic tour, he donated money to provide Thanksgiving dinner to 24,000 people in his home state of Hawaii. Treasure!
Is the emotional labor gap a thing in your house? Is it inevitable?
We just finished up Dr. Mark Hyman’s 10-Day Detox. I had seen Dr. Hyman speak at an event hosted by Donna Karan many years ago and always had it in the back of my mind to try his program. With the holidays coming up, it seemed like the perfect time. Overall, it was labor intensive but I was happy I did it and would do it again. And, his strawberry almond smoothie has become one of my favorite morning rituals. This is the recipe that he has posted online, but I’ve included the one in the book below because it’s coconut-free and so am I.
1 T raw almond butter
3 raw walnuts and 1T flax seeds, soaked overnight (or for at least 30 minutes)
1 c. water
1/2 t. fresh gingerroot
1/4 t. cinnamon
Whiz it all up in the blender with some ice and feel virtuous all day!
Have a fab Thanksgiving!
